The 7 Greatest Multiplayer & Co-op Games Ever

Any list of the best-ever games is rife with competition. Arguments break out, and friendships are sullied! There is no definitive, empirical way of measuring which is the very best. There is simply personal opinion vs. person opinion. With that in mind, here is our list of the best multiplayer and co-op games ever made. Let the bickering commence.

1. Super Smash Bros Melee

You might have expected Call of Duty, or some other first person shooter at the top of this list. But, no, nothing has brought more joy and split friendships quite like Super Smash Bros Melee. Pitting Pikachu against Link is every gamer’s dream! With Super Smash Bros Melee, Nintendo allowed players to fight out their imaginary schoolyard arguments. “No way, Yoshi would definitely beat Mario in a fight!”

Perfect Dark/Goldeneye

It’s a tie for second place between the two best FPS games ever made. The developers at Rare changed the entire gaming world with these two legendary titles. Goldeneye came first and became the first to introduce this new style. The multiplayer was addictive, allowing two players to work together and hunt down others. Perfect Dark was the successor, honing and defining the experience even further.

Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead is another in a long line of fantastic co-op first person shooters. The beauty of this game, above all others, is the active modding community. The open source game allows developers to create new upgrades and amazing new characters. The game spent many secretive years in development at Valve, and the final product was received with critical acclaim. Velociraptors with guns, shooting at zombies. What’s not to love?

Portal 2

Portal remains one of the most popular – and best – flash games ever created. It’s based on the simple premise of firing teleportation portals from a ray gun. You use the portals to teleport around the level and complete the puzzle. Simple and addictive. The multiplayer version in Portal 2 took everything up a notch.

Time Splitters 2

Ask any gamer to list their favourite first person shooters and Timesplitters 2 will come up every time. The game is adored for its unique and imaginative concepts. The fascinating, time-hopping levels and ridiculous characters made it a joy to play. The multi-player version came complete with tons of options, games, and characters. Timesplitters 2 is a classic that will never be forgotten.

Mario Kart 64

Nintendo delivered yet another classic multiplayer game with Mario Kart. It spawned one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time. It gave racing games a whole new level of excitement that all the family could enjoy. The game is an excellent way to introduce new gamers into the world of consoles.

Minecraft

Minecraft is the surprise indie phenomenon that became the best-selling PC game of all-time. You can access the multiplayer version using Fun Minecraft Servers which is hours of fun. Using simple blocks to build grand structures, towns and just about anything else, you’ll never get bored.

These are the games that define childhoods and creates family feuds! But, most of all, they bring us closer together. And we love them for it.
